Celebrating Milestones: From Graduation to New Beginnings

I can remember it like it was yesterday. Weeks of learning, weeks of stress and sleep deprivation, weeks of fear to fail and lastly weeks of waiting just for this one moment, the moment when my name was called on stage. In this moment all the hard work paid of and you are just proud of you. This moment, standing on the stage in front of friends, teachers, and family member not just proves that one has past some tests, it shows a major step in ones life: leaving childhood behind and stepping into adult hood. And for that one can be very much proud of oneself.

On the 07 of August our study centre students were able to experience this moment. Matric and Intermediate students from our study centres were celebrated. Parents, our study centre teachers and other YMCA staff members came together to show their proudness and gratefulness. The VTC hall was beautifully decorated, creating a warm and festive atmosphere. The celebration began with a wonderful dance performance by students from the Islamnagar Centre, followed by heartfelt words from the General Secretary.

But we did not only celebrate the passing of our study centre students, we are also proud to say that eight of our women from our skill development project have completed their tailoring training and are now ready to work in the real world. And of course we also had to celebrate that.

Now our students and tailoring women are facing a new phase in their life, for some this means starting a vocational training, for some, higher education and for some a time to think about ‘what to do’ will start. But no matter what they decide what to do, we will stand by their side and support every little step.
