The Urban Community Development Programme (UCDP) of the YMCA Ranchi aims to support people living in the urban slums of Ranchi to lead lives of dignity and self-determination. Through measures in the areas of educational support, health education, strengthening the role of young people and women, skill training and maintaining social harmony, we strive to minimise disadvantaged living conditions as far as possible in order to ensure equal opportunities for people from the economically weaker sections of society.

We can draw on experienced and motivated staff and the trust we have built up in the communities. At the same time, however, this type of work is only possible thanks to support and donations received from well-wishers in India and around the world.

The Preschools in our UCDP community centres help children to understand that learning can be fun and thus smoothens their transition into the formal education. Every year, between 180 and 200 young children between 3 and 6 years of age visit our Preschools in the 6 centres on a daily basis. 12 dedicated teachers and 6 cooks from the local communities are directly involved with the kids.

Community Health  (UCDP)

In order to improve general living conditions, the topic of health is of particular importance. For many people in the communities, going to the doctor is something that is difficult and usually only happens when it is already too late. Awareness and prevention in health issues are of particular importance. Health services must be low-threshold and affordable. Besides the existing OPD services at our Health Care Center Islamnagar, our Community Health Work under UCDP includes Free Health Check-Up Camps in the different centres, awareness programmes and house visits conducted by our dedicated Community Health Care Workers.
